King's Christian Academy will be strutting in after a win while Southern Maryland Christian Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, King's Christian Academy turned things around against North Point on Saturday. They walked away with a 74-66 victory over the Eagles.
King's Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Earl B. Edmonds, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Edmonds also racked up four steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Elijah Burgess was another key player, going 8 for 18 on his way to 22 points.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They came up short against Lanham Christian on Friday, falling 71-49. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Lions are ranked 31st).
King's Christian Academy will need focus on slowing down Johnie Griffin Lll, one of several Southern Maryland Christian Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Griffin Lll is becoming a predictor of Southern Maryland Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 13-5 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Semaj Carter, who posted 12 points.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for King's Christian Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-16.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: King's Christian Academy has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southern Maryland Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
