You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Welcome
The power rankings welcomes a newcomer to the scene as Aquinas Institute earned the 19th spot after its strong showing last week. It took its game against Pittsford by a confident 27 - 3 score. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Ruben Torres, who brought his A game into the contest. He earned two touchdowns and 186 yards rushing the ball.
Can't Touch This
St. Anthony's not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Monsignor Farrell in every quarter. St. Anthony's breezed past Monsignor Farrell with a final score of 38 - 16. St. Anthony's did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. Campisi's performance stood out as one of the best in the power rankings for the week.
No Stoppin 'Em
Huntington and West Islip went up, up, and away last week as they combined for the highest point total (72) among all power ranked teams. West Islip narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Huntington 37 - 35. Despite West Islip's victory, the team was passed up by other teams in the power rankings and gave up five spots in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (12th in the power rankings) and Queensbury (4th). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Queensbury put up some lofty point totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they play one another this week.
