Basketball Game Preview: Roseville Tigers vs. Yuba City Honkers

The Roseville Tigers will square off against the Yuba City Honkers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Roseville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Yuba City likes a good challenge.

Roseville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Woodcreek just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timberwolves. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (56), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyler Ritter, who posted 15 points along with six assists and five steals. Roseville is 12-5 when Ritter posts three or more steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Matthias Howard, who went 7 for 11 en route to 18 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Yuba City was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 62-58 to Nevada Union. While losing is never fun, the Honkers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 787th, while the Miners are ranked 361st).

Yuba City has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Roseville, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

Roseville won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup on January 7th, slipping by Yuba City 60-59. Will Roseville repeat their success, or does Yuba City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
