Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Cougars vs. Garnet Valley Jaguars

The Springfield Cougars will square off against the Garnet Valley Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Springfield's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four contests, but Monday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.

Springfield fell victim to Lower Merion and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aces.

Connor Manuel was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.

At the plate, Springfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Meakim, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Jake Lennon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Garnet Valley). Everything went their way against Harriton on Wednesday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Cody Wiest looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Kyle Klein was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nolan Carroll, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

Garnet Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
