Basketball Recap: Northeastern Clinton Piles Up the Points Against Saranac Lake

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeastern Clinton). They breezed by the Saranac Lake Red Storm to the tune of 54-25 on Wednesday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Red Storm are ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Saranac Lake lost, don't look at Emma Akey. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points. That was a full 44% of Saranac Lake's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Tomaszewski, who earned six points.

Northeastern Clinton's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Saranac Lake, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Northeastern Clinton will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Moriah at 7:00 p.m. on January 21st. As for Saranac Lake, they will head out to face off against AuSable Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
