Baseball Recap: Smoky Hill Takes a Loss

Smoky Hill had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it four. They lost 10-0 to the Cherokee Trail Cougars. The Buffaloes were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Cherokee Trail, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-7 record. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Cherokee Trail's part, Connor Thrush made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Thrush a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon McWilliams, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Peyton Michlig also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

While Smoky Hill had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
