Concord (N.C.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as it scored a touchdown with with 1:00 left in the third quarter, bringing the team to victory over
Freedom (Morganton, N.C.) 27-20.
After trailing 14-12 at the half, the Patriots went ahead on a touchdown run by
David Burgess with 4:00 left in the third.
Concord saw its 2-point halftime lead fall to one entering the fourth.
The loss snapped Freedom's 8-game winning streak.
FHS's Burgess played well. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 33 on the year.
Terry Cassel stood out for CHS in the win. The sophomore running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 14 touchdowns on the season.
The loss comes after Freedom defeated Burns 19-18 last week.
