Basketball Game Preview: Lakota Raiders vs. Gibsonburg Golden Bears

Lakota and Gibsonburg are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Lakota Raiders are taking a road trip to take on the Gibsonburg Golden Bears at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Lakota is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Calvert on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Lakota was beaten by Calvert 55-20. The game marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Gibsonburg waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-54 win over the Stockaders. Given the Golden Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Stockaders are ranked 542nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gibsonburg has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.1 points per game. As for Lakota, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-9.

Lakota came up short against Gibsonburg in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 53-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gibsonburg's Elly Evarts, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds.
