Basketball Recap: Dynamic duo of Rhionna Matthews and Jordyn Rohlfsen lead Roncalli Catholic to victory

Basketball Recap: Roncalli Catholic Crimson Pride vs. Mercy Monarchs

The Roncalli Catholic Crimson Pride won the last time they faced the Mercy Monarchs, and things went their way on Thursday too. Roncalli Catholic strolled past the Monarchs with points to spare, taking the game 56-38.

Leading Roncalli Catholic to victory were Rhionna Matthews and Jordyn Rohlfsen. Matthews almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists, while Rohlfsen scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alice Cunningham, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.

Mercy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah Anthofer, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anthofer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Melina Nelson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.

Roncalli Catholic now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Mercy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roncalli Catholic will take on the Cardinals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. South Sioux City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Crimson Pride in Nebraska (the Cardinals are ranked 50th, while the Crimson Pride are ranked 132nd). As for Mercy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Concordia is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses.
