Greater Thumb - West recap October 8, 2013

Vassar's Isiah Gonzales recorded the longest rushing play in Greater Thumb - West this season in his game against Marlette last week. Gonzales ran for 77 yards on the play and finished with 78 on the day as his team fell to the Red Raiders.

Reese extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cass City, 32-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Rockets.

Vassar's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Michael Pratt threw for 62 yards and Lamont Morrison had 19 yards receiving. On the ground William Abbott chipped in 126 yards. David Wargo helped Vassar's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 16 yards.

Pratt put up the best numbers in passing as Jason Kiss' team lost to Marlette. Pratt's favorite target this week was Morrison, who caught 2 passes for 19 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Vulcans' Pratt and Wargo have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Pratt has thrown for 994 yards this season, while Wargo has 16 catches for 317 yards. Seth Gangler from Unionville-Sebewaing leads the league in rushing with 587 yards.

The top two teams in Greater Thumb - West will face off this week when first place Reese takes on second place Laker.

Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Vassar takes on the Patriots. The Vulcans' offense has scored 225 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Unionville-Sebewaing has allowed only 81 on the year.

There should be lots of points scored when Vassar and Jason Beagle's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Vulcans comes in having scored 225 this season, while the Patriots have scored 92. Vassar scored 35 points last week as it fell to Dennis Lester's team.
