Volleyball Game Preview: Lehigh Lightning vs. Gateway Eagles

The Lehigh Lightning will head out on the road to face off against the Gateway Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Lehigh has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Lehigh is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since October 2, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cape Coral, sneaking past 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lightning as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Lehigh was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (102-100), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-14, 25-22, 12-25, 18-16.

Meanwhile, Gateway lost 3-0 to Cape Coral on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Seahawks: they've now lost four in a row.

While Gateway had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Lehigh, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.

Lehigh was able to grind out a solid win over Gateway in their previous meeting on September 4th, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lightning since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
