Softball Game Preview: Trinity Tigers vs. Onalaska Wildcats

For the second straight game, Trinity will face off against Onalaska. The Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Trinity will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Trinity blew Onalaska out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Onalaska got their revenge. The Tigers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 10-8. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Wildcats since Tuesday.

For Onalaska's part, Vanessa Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Lopez has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Onalaska let Arian Shaddon and Hailey Hughes run wild. Shaddon got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Hughes got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Hughes a new career-high. Gracie Hoover was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Onalaska always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They are 7-1-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Onalaska's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-11-2. As for Trinity, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.
