Softball Recap: St. Anthony Comes Up Short

St. Anthony had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 12-12 to make it six. They lost 12-2 to the Effingham Hearts. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since April 24th.

St. Anthony saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Schultz, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Effingham, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Effingham's side, Ryley Engel was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Engel has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sidney Donaldson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

While St. Anthony had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
