Basketball Game Preview: Douglas Byrd Eagles vs. Seventy-First Falcons

Douglas Byrd hasn't had much luck against Seventy-First recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Douglas Byrd Eagles just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Seventy-First Falcons at 3:00 p.m.

Douglas Byrd is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game on Friday. They were beaten by Lumberton 78-25. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 592nd, while the Pirates are ranked 112th).

Meanwhile, Seventy-First had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Rams 77-45. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Seventy-First pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.

Douglas Byrd was taken down by Seventy-First 97-31 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Douglas Byrd was down 57-22.
