League recap: Rubio's hitting boosts Bishop

2A Region IV District 31 league recap: 5/29/12

Joseph Rubio was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .600 average with four RBIs. Meanwhile, Bishop put together a 0-2 week.

First place in the league belongs to Refugio, which has compiled a 23-1 overall record to go with its 14-0 league record. The Badgers are in second place, two games behind with a 12-2 record in league play.

Bishop boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, the Badgers have allowed just 150 hits, while striking out 263 batters. Rubio leads the Badgers with 142 strikeouts in 85 innings pitched.

Rubio led the league with six hits this week for Bishop. He is third in the league with 35 hits this year, and has a .417 batting average.



Dylan Horner drove in four runners as Hallettsville defeated Bishop 1-0 on Thursday.
