Soccer Game Preview: Columbus vs. Lincoln Southwest

Columbus is 0-10 against Lincoln Southwest since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Discoverers are taking a road trip to take on the Silver Hawks at 6:00 p.m.

Columbus is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Lincoln East, who was ranked fifth at the time (Columbus was ranked 19th). The Discoverers came up short against the Spartans on Tuesday, falling 4-0.

Kearney typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Lincoln Southwest proved too difficult a challenge. Their defense stepped up to hand the Bearcats a 2-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for Lincoln Southwest in their matchups with Kearney: they've now won nine in a row.

Lincoln Southwest's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Columbus, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Columbus couldn't quite get it done against Lincoln Southwest when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Discoverers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
