Baseball Game Preview: Burton Pumas vs. KIPP SF College Prep Phoenix

Burton is a perfect 10-0 against KIPP SF College Prep since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Burton will be playing at home against KIPP SF College Prep at 3:30 p.m. Burton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.2 runs per game this season.

Burton is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Galileo just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The contest marked the Pumas' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Christian Pabalate was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Pabalate wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zimry Rucker, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Rucker is becoming a predictor of Burton's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Elias Gonzalez was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

KIPP SF College Prep played against Galileo on Wednesday and lost via forfeit.

Burton's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for KIPP SF College Prep, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Burton took their victory against KIPP SF College Prep in their previous matchup on March 6th by a conclusive 18-0. Will Burton repeat their success, or does KIPP SF College Prep has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
