Basketball Recap: Woodward Academy's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Woodward Academy waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They enjoyed a cozy 66-47 victory over the Lakeside Vikings. Given the War Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Vikings are ranked 364th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Woodward Academy was led to victory by Zachary Foster and Jarvis Hayes Jr.. Foster dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards, while Hayes Jr. dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Foster's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Deke Cooper, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Woodward Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Lakeside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sterling Pritchett went 8 for 17 en route to 20 points and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for Pritchett. Another player making a difference was Nate Bennion, who posted nine points and six boards.

Woodward Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points per game. As for Lakeside, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Woodward Academy will venture away from home to face off against Tri-Cities at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Woodward Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Lakeside, they will host Chamblee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chamblee has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
