Basketball Recap: Lukas Cox's Big Game Can't Quite Lead River City Believers Academy over Gateway Christian

River City Believers Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 40-32 to the Gateway Christian Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Soldiers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 39-36 back in December of 2024.

River City Believers Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lukas Cox, who posted 12 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. That was a full 37.5% of River City Believers Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brennen McGuire, who earned ten points and seven rebounds.

River City Believers Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Gateway Christian, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-11.

River City Believers Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-34 defeat against Hill Country Christian on the 24th. Gateway Christian has also already played their next match (against First Baptist Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
