Baseball Recap: Rural Retreat Comes Up Short

Rural Retreat lost against Honaker back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Indians fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Trever Shelton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Shelton wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jay Snavely, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Snavely is becoming a predictor of Rural Retreat's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 1-3-1 when he doesn't). Hunter Rollyson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Rural Retreat's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4-1.

Coming up, Rural Retreat will challenge Northwood at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Honaker, they will head out to face off against Holston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
