Basketball Recap: Volcano Vista Falls Short Against Ranked Farmington

On Wednesday, Volcano Vista faced Farmington in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Volcano Vista Hawks fell to the Farmington Scorpions 40-35. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-39 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Volcano Vista lost, don't look at Adriana Zavala. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Zavala has posted since back in December of 2024.

Farmington was led to victory by Kjani Anitielu and Chenoa Parrish. Anitielu dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards, while Parrish posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Anitielu is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played.

Volcano Vista has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Farmington, their record now sits at 14-5.

Volcano Vista will take on Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Volcano Vista likes a good challenge. As for Farmington, they will venture away from home to face off against Cibola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Farmington is facing Cibola at the right time seeing as Cibola is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
