Softball Recap: Andover Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Andover came tearing into Saturday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hermantown Hawks a 9-0 shutout. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Aurora Taft and Alex Kostecka were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Taft pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Kostecka didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Taft went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Kostecka went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Kostecka has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Megan Surgenor was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Harper Lien was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Andover kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.

Andover's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Hermantown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Andover is taking a road trip to take on Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hermantown, they will host Virginia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
