After a string of six wins, California's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 12-7 to the Alameda Hornets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Grizzlies came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Hornets are ranked 172nd).

Caeli AuYeung threw for 100 yards on 11 of 17 attempts. Carissa Rogers was her top target, picking up 43 receiving yards.

California suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 12-2. As for Alameda, their record now sits at 10-8-1.

Looking ahead, California will welcome Dublin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gaels' defense has only allowed 14.1 points per game this season, so the Grizzlies' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Alameda, they will challenge San Marin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
