Cumberland won the last time they faced Hillsboro and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cumberland Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 victory over the Hillsboro Hiltoppers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Cumberland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Stewart led the charge by putting up ten points. Another player making a difference was Zack Harmon, who posted four points in addition to ten rebounds and four blocks.

Cumberland was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillsboro only racked up five assists.

Hillsboro's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mark Mattson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Mattson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nathan Matoush, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Cumberland's record now sits at 4-5. As for Hillsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Cumberland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-42 win against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on the 21st. As for Hillsboro, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-50 victory against Gillespie on the 20th.
