Basketball Recap: Sumner Starts Season with Victory at Home

Sumner gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 55-48 win over the East Bay Indians. This was payback for the Stingrays, who suffered a 75-64 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sumner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devin Houston led the charge by dropping a double-double with 12 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance also gave Houston a new career-high in assists (two). Miles Moore was another key player, shooting 67% from the field to rack up 12 points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumner won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Winthrop College Prep Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Bay, they and Strawberry Crest will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest, having both just played.
