Softball Game Preview: Shorecrest Scots vs. Sehome Mariners

The Shorecrest Scots will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Sehome Mariners at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Shorecrest will be strutting in after a victory while Sehome will be coming in after a defeat.

If Shorecrest beats Sehome with 20 runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Shorecrest's pitchers stepped up to hand Franklin a 20-0 shutout on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Scots.

Chloe Gurnee made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gurnee was even better at the plate, scoring four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Claire Maxwell looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

Back at the plate, Riu Hanrahan was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Atherton, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Sehome came up short against Nooksack Valley on Thursday, falling 12-6. The loss continues a trend for the Mariners in their meetings with the Pioneers: they've now lost three in a row.

Jacinta Lewis was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Sehome now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Shorecrest, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Shorecrest skirted past Sehome 14-13 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Shorecrest repeat their success, or does Sehome have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
