Downingtown West is a perfect 10-0 against Henderson since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Whippets will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 3:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Downingtown West has four straight wins, Henderson has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Downingtown West lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bayard Rustin, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Whippets were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Golden Knights on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Whippets, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Kiri Weidner, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Bayard Rustin off the board. Weidner has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Downingtown West let Casey McWilliams and Lillian O'Laughlin run wild. McWilliams got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while O'Laughlin went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Downingtown West hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Henderson didn't have quite enough to beat Avon Grove on Wednesday and fell 6-4. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly two runs.
Avery Reitnour was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Downingtown West's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Henderson, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Henderson's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Downingtown West has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Henderson, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Downingtown West keep running through batters, or will the Warriors buck the trend?
Downingtown West came out on top in a nail-biter against Henderson in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Whippets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
