South Putnam had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They didn't even let the Southmont Mounties on the board on Tuesday, marking the Eagles' second-straight 2-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Not much got past Taylor Boyce, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Southmont off the board. Boyce has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, South Putnam's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Elliana Cox, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
South Putnam's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Southmont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.
South Putnam will take on Greencastle at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Tiger Cubs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Southmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
