Baseball Recap: Staley Gets the Win

Staley came out on top against Hickman on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Falcons took their contest against the Kewpies 8-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Falcons also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Landon Schreifels tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Staley got a massive performance out of Evan Abbott, who fired off two home runs and three runs while going 3-for-4. Grant Madrid was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Staley lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Staley and bumps their season record up to 14-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Hickman, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-7.

Looking ahead, Staley will be playing at home against Blue Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hickman, they will head out to take on Howell at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Kewpies' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
