Basketball Recap: Trinidad Miners vs. Raton Tigers
Trinidad was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 58-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raton Tigers. The Miners lost against the Tigers in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 75-33 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Trinidad saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremiah Romero posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Moreno, who put up seven points.
Raton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chase Walton led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Walton also posted five blocks, which is notable because Raton is undefeated when he posts at least three blocks, but 3-7 otherwise. Tyler Petrini was another key player, going 6 for 15 en route to 15 points and seven boards.
