Baseball Game Preview: Canajoharie Cougars vs. Mekeel Christian Academy Lions

The Canajoharie Cougars will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Mekeel Christian Academy Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Canajoharie nor Mekeel Christian Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Canajoharie easily dispatched Stillwater on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Cougars fell just short of Duanesburg by a score of 4-2 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered against the Eagles since April 18, 2016.

Canajoharie saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Hyney, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Mekeel Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 21-1 to Schoharie.

Canajoharie's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Mekeel Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Canajoharie's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mekeel Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Canajoharie continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Canajoharie's way against Mekeel Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Canajoharie made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
