Volleyball Recap: Montini Catholic Broncos vs. Mother McAuley Mighty Macs
Montini Catholic entered their matchup against Mother McAuley on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Broncos took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mighty Macs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mighty Macs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in August.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Mother McAuley scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-17.
Francesca Lorenzo paced Montini Catholic's offense, picking up 12 kills. Lorenzo got some help from Avalyn DeKeyser and her 19 assists. Finally, Moira Quirk kept Montini Catholic's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.
Mother McAuley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Peyton Heatherly out in front who had 22 assists and four digs. Heatherly is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Lucy Maloney was another key player, getting 14 digs and two assists.
Montini Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Mother McAuley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montini Catholic will face off against Fenwick at 6:00 p.m. on the 9th. As for Mother McAuley, they will square off against Assumption at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
