Recap: StoneBridge Cavaliers vs. Rock Church Lions
The StoneBridge Cavaliers suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. Their rough 72-52 defeat to Rock Church might stick with them for a while. StoneBridge found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 11 fewer assists than your opponent.
StoneBridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyler Thompson, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Thompson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Douglas Marshall, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Rock Church got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandon Williams out in front who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Rock Church's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Dawkins, who scored 12 points along with six assists and six steals.
StoneBridge now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Rock Church, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
StoneBridge will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenbrier Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Greenbrier Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Thursday. Rock Church's road trip will continue as they head out to face Bethel Assembly Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 8th. Bethel Assembly Christian Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 10.
