Basketball Recap: Marley Belzer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Staples over Trumbull

Staples was the 50-44 winner over Trumbull when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Staples Wreckers took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trumbull Eagles on Friday.

Staples' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marley Belzer, who posted 13 points. Those 13 points gave Belzer a new career-high. Freya Harvey was another key player, going 5 for 7 en route to 11 points and five boards.

Staples' loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Trumbull, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Coming up, Staples will challenge Danbury at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Trumbull, they will face off against Ridgefield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Ridgefield will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Trumbull surely won't give up without a fight.
