Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mcfarland

McFarland extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 7-11. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Stoughton Vikings. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on JJ Blattner, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. McFarland is 3-1 when Blattner posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Sawyer Punzel also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

McFarland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

As for Stoughton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Stoughton's side, Jaxson Nielsen was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Oliver Pietruszynski, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

McFarland will have a chance to go back-to-back against Stoughton: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
