Baseball Game Preview: Yorktown Tigers vs. Shelbyville Golden Bears

For the second straight game, Yorktown will face off against Shelbyville. The Tigers will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Golden Bears at 6:00 p.m.

Yorktown is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Shelbyville just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 7-4 to the Golden Bears.

For Shelbyville's part, Aiden Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Smith was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grantland Fitzgerald, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Reece Prickett, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Shelbyville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Yorktown, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
