Softball Recap: Austin Comes Up Short

Austin lost against Providence back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Eagles came up short against the Pioneers, falling 13-3. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly ten runs.

Myca Buckel put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Buckel wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Ousley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Austin has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Providence, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Austin has already played their next match, a 15-5 victory against Scottsburg on the 6th. As for Providence, they will welcome Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
