League recap: Silver Lake extends winning streak with victory over St. Marys

Silver Lake extended the longest winning streak in Mid-East this week by beating St. Marys, 27-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Eagles.

Rossville's dynamic duo of Dalton Catron and Corbin Horak proved tough for Rock Creek to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Catron threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns and Horak had 62 yards receiving. Tucker Horak helped Rossville's passing attack out by catching one ball for 50 yards.

Tyler Dillon was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 146 yards on 18 carries as the Mustangs topped the Mustangs. Teammate Jimmie Goodmiller added to the ground attack by rushing for 58 yards.

Cole Brecheisen made the biggest impact on defense this week as Rossville topped Rock Creek. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed one interception and recorded one fumble.

5-foot-8 quarterback Catron of Steve Buhler's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 693. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, Wabaunsee's Ethan Miller has rushed for 554 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jeff Torkelson. The Silver Lake star has 16 catches for 211 yards.

The top two teams in Mid-East will face off this week when first place Silver Lake takes on second place Rossville. Silver Lake beat the Bears last week, while the Bulldogs bested Mike Beam's team.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Rossville takes on Cj Hamilton's team. The Bulldogs have allowed 74 points this season, while the Eagles have given up 38. Rossville allowed 33 points last week as it topped the Mustangs.

The Bulldogs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,750 from 3,547. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 36-33 victory over Rock Creek last week.
