The Southington Blue Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Plainville Blue Devils at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Southington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Southington is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Mercy on Tuesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

Shelby Jordan spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Olivia Gombotz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one run and one double. Aubrey Perugini was another key player, going 2-for-6 with one triple.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Plainville and Platt meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Blue Devils blew past the Panthers 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Southington's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Plainville, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.

Southington was able to grind out a solid victory over Plainville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Blue Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
