The Godby Cougars will square off against the Arnold Marlins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Godby made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Wakulla Christian School, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars fell just short of the Saints by a score of 6-4 last Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 11, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Godby saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Garland, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Arnold had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Marlins, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Beau Williams looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Laymon, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Braxton Greve was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Arnold always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Arnold's record now sits at 14-11. As for Godby, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Godby has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Arnold struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Godby might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Arnold when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
