Basketball Recap: Memorial Day Comes Up Short

Memorial Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 85-50 loss at the hands of the First Preparatory Christian Academy Highlanders. The Matadors were probably out for revenge after losing 64-49 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

First Preparatory Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaiden Thomas led the charge by going 9 of 21 en route to 27 points and four steals. The game was Thomas' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Betton, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven assists and four steals.

Memorial Day's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for First Preparatory Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

While Memorial Day had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
