Softball Game Preview: Mitchell Kernels vs. Tea Titans

The Mitchell Kernels are taking a road trip to challenge the Tea Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Mitchell will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Mitchell had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Spearfish on Saturday. The Kernels blew past the Spartans 11-1. The Kernels not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 20th (when they won 13-0).

Rylee Jennings spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Schlimgen, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Iris Ackman, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple.

Mitchell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Tea faced Roosevelt in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Titans fell just short of the Rough Riders by a score of 7-5. The Titans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mitchell's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Tea, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Mitchell came out on top in a nail-biter against Tea in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, sneaking past 15-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Kernels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
