The Valencia Jaguars will head out on the road to challenge the Bernalillo Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
It was a proper cat-fight when Valencia faced off against Taos on Friday. Valencia fell 8-5 to Taos.
Pryce Henry made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Lucas Apodaca was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bernalillo had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Pintos. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Uriel Castro was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Anthony Garcia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Bernalillo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moriarty struck out seven times.
Valencia's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bernalillo, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Valencia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bernalillo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Valencia couldn't quite finish off Bernalillo in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 10-8. Can Valencia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
