Baseball Recap: Lee County Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Lee County's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Scotland Fighting Scots. That's more bragging rights for the Yellow Jackets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gavin Swann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drew Stanfield, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Alston Beal was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

With the victory, Lee County broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-8. As for Scotland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

Lee County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 20-3 defeat against Terry Sanford on the 9th. Hopefully Scotland payed attention to the Yellow Jackets' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
