Baseball Game Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Hertford County Bears

First Flight is a perfect 10-0 against Hertford County since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. First Flight will host Hertford County at 6:00 p.m. First Flight is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

First Flight made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Camden County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. First Flight blew past Camden County 12-2 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Nighthawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Jordan Kempton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Aaron Stewart was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He has become a key player for First Flight: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-5 otherwise. Fionn Reilly was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Hertford County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against Northeastern, falling 8-2.

Hertford County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for First Flight, they moved to 5-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Hertford County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: First Flight hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Hertford County, though, as they've only averaged .168. Will they be able to contain First Flight's hitters?

First Flight took their victory against Hertford County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-3. Will First Flight repeat their success, or does Hertford County has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
