Softball Recap: Maxwell Panthers vs. Quincy Trojans
Maxwell extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-17 in the process. They lost 14-1 to the Quincy Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 on Friday.
As for Quincy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
For Quincy's part, Jemma Trueblood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Trueblood has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Quincy let Molly Newton and Addison Gay run wild. Newton went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, while Gay went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Gay has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Goulet, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, Maxwell will head out to face off against Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Quincy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
