Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Baker Mountaineers vs. Lakewood Cougars

The Mt. Baker Mountaineers will square off against the Lakewood Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 69-31, which was the final score in Mt. Baker's tilt against Lynden on Monday. The Mountaineers have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Lakewood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Borderites, posting a 75-38 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 23 points or more this season.

Lakewood is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Mt. Baker, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Mt. Baker lost to Lakewood at home by a decisive 71-55 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Mt. Baker avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
