Softball Recap: John Carroll Catholic Starts Season with Win Against Vero Beach

John Carroll Catholic took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Vero Beach Indians a 7-0 shutout. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 12-1 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Isabella Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Ramirez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briley Orton, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gianna Dericco, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Vero Beach now has a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John Carroll Catholic will square off against Okeechobee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vero Beach, they will head out to take on Moore Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
