Volleyball Recap: Union Comes Up Short

Union lost against Allegheny-Clarion Valley on September 8th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Knights/Damsels fell 3-1 to the Falcons.

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-11.

When it comes to explaining why Union lost, don't look at Lillian Hayden. Despite the final result, she had 43 digs. Hayden is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Anthony, who had 17 digs and six kills.

Allegheny-Clarion Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lexi Altman led the charge by getting eight digs and six aces. That's the most aces Altman has posted since back in August. Madalyn Dehart was another key player, getting 13 kills, three aces, and two blocks.

Union's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Allegheny-Clarion Valley, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Union will challenge rival Keystone at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Allegheny-Clarion Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Clarion Area at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
