Softball Game Preview: Whiting Oilers vs. River Forest Ingots

Whiting and River Forest are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Oilers will head out on the road to challenge the Ingots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Whiting's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.

Whiting's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Lake Station Edison as they made off with an 18-0 victory.

Arianna Vianello was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Gabriella Watkins was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Whiting was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for River Forest's offense. They lost 14-0 to Griffith on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Ingots' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Whiting's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for River Forest, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Whiting has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.3 hits per game. However, it's not like River Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Whiting took their victory against River Forest in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Oilers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
